John Montague

John Montague (1929-2016) was raised in Garvaghey, Co. Tyrone, and educated at University College Dublin, Yale University and the University of California at Berkeley. He co-founded Claddagh Records and became president of Poetry Ireland in 1979. His poetry includes Forms of Exile, Poisoned LandsA Chosen Light, TidesThe Rough Field, A Slow Dance, The Great Cloak, The Dead Kingdom, Mount EagleTime in Armagh, Collected Poems, Smashing the Piano, Carnac, Drunken Sailor, Speech Lessons, and New Collected Poems. His Second Childhood was published posthumously in 2017. John Montague died in Nice in December 2016.
